eMetric has released updates to the iTester ChromeOS Carrier Extension, iPadOS App, and MacOS App. Below is what you need to know to prepare your devices for the 2026 Spring test administration.
ChromeOS Users -
As part of Google’s ongoing updates to ChromeOS, support for legacy ChromeOS Apps, including the OSTP Chrome App, have been phased out. The new ChromeOS extension-based kiosk application has been designed to replace the current legacy OSTP Chrome App for the 2025-2026 school year.
You must install the new Progress Web App (PWA) and the iTester ChromeOS Carrier Extension before Spring Testing Administration. If you have installed the OSTP Chrome app in previous years’ you must remove the legacy Chrome app before adding the OSTP Web App for ChromeOS.
NOTE: Failure to follow each setup step exactly for Chrome OS Users may prevent students from successfully testing in Spring 2026.
Step-by-step instructions for removing previous years’ OSTP Chrome app as well as installing the new PWA and the iTester ChromeOS Carrier Extension are available in the OSTP Kiosk Installation Guide on the Oklahoma Help and Support Site.
What You Need to Know
- New App Required: The new PWA and OSTP Web App for ChromeOS must be installed on all ChromeOS devices used Spring 2026 testing.
- Easy Setup: Step-by-step instructions for setup and configuration are included in the OSTP Kiosk Installation Guide.
- Extension Pairing: The PWA will work alongside a Chrome extension to support secure kiosk testing.
- Test Before School Starts: We strongly recommend schools complete site readiness to ensure all devices are ready for testing after installing the new PWA and OSTP Web App for ChromeOS to ensure no testing interruptions occur.
iTester iPadOS Users -
While updating is not required, to ensure the best experience, we recommend updating all iPads intended for testing to the latest version by following the steps below:
Steps to Update the iTester App on iPadOS
- If Automatic Updates Are Enabled: No action is needed. The iTester app will update automatically when a new version is available.
- If Automatic Updates Are NOT Enabled, then do the following:
- Open the App Store on your iPad.
- Tap your Apple ID icon or profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Scroll down to view pending updates.
- Find the iTester app in the list.
- Tap Update next to the iTester app.
MacOS Users -
An updated version of the macOS kiosk will be released in the OSTP Portal on January 7, 2026, to ensure full compatibility with macOS Tahoe (version 26). This update follows a period of extensive testing and resolves a key compatibility issue identified between our previous kiosk installer and macOS 26. Schools that have already installed the older version of the macOS kiosk may continue using it.
